Clubs

The faculty and staff at Norcross Elementary are dedicated to providing extracurricular activities for our students. Written permission from the parent/guardian is required for participation in all extracurricular activities. Transportation for before or after school clubs is the responsibility of the parent. The following activities are offered to Norcross Elementary students for the grade levels indicated:

Art Club

Bibliomaniacs Club

Coordinator: Debbie May

Purpose: Book Club is for students who loves to read. The students will read and discuss books from the Gwinnett County Readers Rally Competition Booklist. Ten of our Bibliomaniacs!members will have a chance to compete against other GCPS elementary schools in the Readers Rally competition held March 3rd, 2012.

Target Group: 4th and 5th grade

Meeting Days / Dates: Tuesdays, 7:45-8:15am, starting Sept 7th and ending March 6th

Site/School Location where held: Media Center

Proposed Activities: reading books, writing quiz bowl questions, doing practice competition rounds, creating a team to attend Readers Rally.

Math Club

Coordinator: Chris Denslow, Sheri Means

Purpose: Enrichment and to train for the Witzzle Pro Tournament

Target Group: 4th and 5th graders

Meeting Days / Dates: Mondays October through March

Chess Club

Chorus Club

Coordinator: Christina Polizos

Purpose: The Chorus club gives students an opportunity to perform as a choral ensemble in a concert setting. The students meet once a week and rehearse a variety of repertoire as they learn more about correct singing techniques.

Target Group: 4th and 5th Grades

Meeting Days / Dates: Monday 7:30-8:15

Site/School Location where held: Music Room

Proposed Activities Field Trip to Emory Museum with Art Club, Holiday performance in December. Singing at Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center in December, Sing at Black History Month Assembly, Spring Musical to be performed on Empty Bowls night.

Science Club

Coordinator: Jacqueline Petree

Purpose: To increase science knowledge in upper elementary age students

Target Group: Grades 3-5

Meeting Days / Dates: Fridays at 7:30 am beginning in September

Site/School Location where held: Norcross ES Building B Room 3.131 (Science Lab)

Proposed Activities Participating in Gwinnett County's FLARE competition and Science Olympiad

Eagles Nest Nutrition/Athletic Club

Coordinator: Carolyn Weeks and Doug Clark

Purpose: To encourage students to participate in a nutritious and healthy lifetstyle.

Target Group: Grades 3-5

Meeting Days / Dates: Tuesdays 7:15 AM to 8:15 AM

Site, School Location where held: cafeteria and Activity Building

Proposed Activities: Various nutrition and fitness activities

Safety Patrol Club

Dance Club

NES Soccer Club

Signing Choir

Coordinator: Ms. Erica Porten

Purpose: To allow students the opportunity to express themselves in a new and creative way while learning a new language

Target Group: 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade

Meeting Days / Dates: Thursday's 7:30-8:15am

Site/School Location where held: Building B 3rd Floor next to Ms. Olivier's room

Proposed Activities: Hispanic Heritage Night, International Night, Black History Month, Holiday Program, and 2nd Annual Hawks Game (scheduled currently for November 11th)
