Building Your
Child’s Character: Challenges and Solutions We live in a time when teaching our children to be virtuous is especially challenging. As a parent, you might feel weary and overwhelmed as you try to help your children develop virtues such as honesty, respect for themselves and others, humility, courage and a generous rather than greedy heart. You’re not alone. Many parents may wonder how to help their children develop positive personal qualities. One important factor to remember is to be models of positive behavior. Parents, relatives, siblings and childcare providers give their first glimpse of courage, honesty, generosity fairness and respect. However, it’s not enough for your children to see you and other important adults and peers behaving virtuously. They also need encouragement, praise and character feedback. Character development begins at home and continues at school.
Edificando El Carácter de Su Hijo/a: Retos y Soluciones Vivimos en tiempos donde enseñar a nuestros hijos/as puede ser especialmente difícil. Como padre puede sentirse cansado y abrumado según trata de de ayudar a sus hijos/as a desarrollar virtudes como honestidad, respeto por otros y ellos mismos, humildad, coraje y un corazón generoso no avaricioso. Usted no está solo. Muchos padres se preguntan como ayudar a sus hijos desarrollar cualidades personales positivas. Un factor importante que recordar es el de modelar el comportamiento positivo. Padres, familiares, hermanos y los que los cuidan les dan sus primeras vistas de coraje, honestidad, generosidad y respeto. Sin embargo no es suficiente para sus hijos/as el verlo a usted y otros adultos importantes y compañeros comportándose virtuosamente. Ellos también necesitan aliento, alabanzas y pláticas de caracteres. Desarrollo de carácter comienza en casa y continúa en la escuela. |
